Home page of Jenny and Daniel's wedding website

On September 19th, 2020, my sister married the love of her life.

In addition to the usual Maid of Honor duties, I offered to create her wedding website, invitations, and signage. Before I started, I talked with the bride to get a sense of the colors and visual style she wanted. She showed me the reference photos she had sent to the florist, which allowed me to develop a color palette she loved. I also found and purchased floral watercolor images by PeachCremeArt, which became the main graphic elements of the design system.

For the typefaces, I chose Lush for the script because I wanted a good balance between formal and fun. I wanted something as lively and organic as the couple themselves, and Lush delivered. I chose Mrs Eaves as the serif because I fell in love with the elegance of the italic version. Once I had chosen Mrs Eaves, it didn't take me long to choose Mr Eaves as her sans-serif partner.

Our Story

Website

For their wedding website, we decided to use the url jennydaniel.wedding and password protect it to prevent wedding crashers. I created a custom Wordpress theme that I titled "Pretty Eyes", in reference to Jenny's nickname for Daniel before she learned his name. While most of the pages on the site were informational, the website was also the main way for guests to RSVP.

We chose to let the domain name expire a few months after the wedding, but before then I removed the password protection and submitted it to the Wayback Machine so that it would be archived for posterity.

Invitations

Once the website was up and running and filled with content, it was time to send out the invitations. These were printed on card stock with a matching vellum sheet on top.

About a month before the wedding, I also created a matching invitation for Jenny's Bridal Shower, which ended up being a drive-through event where she sat on her front lawn while her bridesmaids pampered her and friends & family drove by to show their support from a distance. I included activity cards with the invitations so guests could fill them out in advance. The art of the car and balloon are by Corner Craft.

Signage

The drive-through bridal shower happened the weekend before the wedding. I created several signs to help it run smoothly. I made sure to have them printed on high quality paper, because Jenny is very sentimental and I knew she would want to keep the signs.

After I had already secretly ordered the sign holders for the shower, Jenny came to me in a panic, as she realized it was two weeks from the wedding and she hadn't even thought about signage yet. I told her to tell me what she needed and I would handle everything.

I'm disappointed that both I and the wedding photographer forgot to take pictures of the sign I'm most proud of, the Signature Cocktails sign at the bar. The cocktails were named after the couple's two cats (who are basically their children!), and I managed to find watercolor art by everysunsun of a cat that looked like it could be a fusion of Virgo and Ezri. It's both a cute visual element and a quick explanation for the meaning behind the drink names.

Despite the challenges of Covid-19 precautions, Jenny and Daniel were able to safely celebrate the start of their new lives together with their friends and family. The two of them were extremely grateful for everything I did to help make their special day even more special.
